Launched in 2018, MARY juxtaposes the fanciful and the flirty with the sexy and sophisticated. The dream child of founder, creative director and CEO Mary Benson, MARY was borne out of her love of beautiful dresses and colourful prints, combined with years of experience in textiles and illustration.
She is influenced by vintage markets, and collects a plethora of curiosities from clothing to flower pots to ornaments. When not designing, she loves spending time with her life and business partner, Tadgh Barry, and their beautiful son.
Sustainability is at the heart of MARY, and every item is made with integrity from start to finish. The clothing is made by skilled seamstresses in the UK, and the team regularly visit the factories that make MARY pieces.
Collaborations & Following
Benson frequently collaborates, and has worked with ASOS, with Terry De Havilland on bespoke shoes, Stephen Jones OBE on several hat collaborations and Tatty Devine on a series of showpieces among many other huge names. Comprising ready-to-wear, handbags, accessories and homeware, MARY’S celebrity following includes Paloma Faith, Rita Ora, Kate Nash and Ellie Goulding, and has been featured in Vogue, GQ Style and i-D, to name but a few.
Benson was born in Yorkshire, and has resided in London since 2009. She worked for the late Alexander McQueen and Richard Nicoll while attending her degree in Fashion Design at The University of Westminster. She has since been sponsored by brands such as TOPSHOP and Swarovski, and was given The Award for Enterprise in Business and Management at the Yorkshire Awards in 2015, as well as the Yorkshire Women of Achievement Award for Business & Management in 2016.
